Taylor County, Texas, Flood of 2002

Click Picture for Larger View

Buffalo Gap was isolated, all roads in and out closed.Driving east on Woodlake, a block from our house. The metal dam was damaged and a new river crossed Woodlake and the drainage ditch there. The water roared past.Cars have been stuck at this point on Buttonwillow before. Last time it was a Cadillac.
New Rivers Everywhere.Same car, different view. The Winters Freeway Flooded Out. This was before that. The Dumpster is Floating. From Winters Freeway Southbound looking toward 14th, another floating Dumpster.
A bit further on. Traffic was crawling.Ditto.The 14th and Clack Intersection was closed.Texas Avenue as seen from the Winters FreewayWith a bit more zoom.
By this time traffic was stopped completely and they were evacuating the apartments. But life goes on (he's carrying laundry!).Abilene's famous metal cows were swimming. And lots of good people were putting in many hours of overtime helping many people whose lives changed for the worse on July 6, 2002. Thanks, folks.
